First aired as a radio play in Italy in 2012, The Lehman Trilogy was written by playwright Stefano Massini. It chronicles the Lehman brothers' journey from their arrival in America in 1844 to the bankruptcy of Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc. in 2008. It was developed into a full-length play over the course of three years with an original run-time of five hours. Its three-hours-long English adaptation by Ben Powers debuted in 2018 at the Royal National Theatre, London. It ran at the Park Avenue Armory, NYC before returning to London for its West End debut in May '19. This adaptation received praise for being crisp while preserving the essence of the original version.
