Taking its name from the Shakespeare play of the same title, Titus Andronicus is an intellectual indie rock band with punk energy and ambient interludes. Formed in New Jersey, the trio released its first album to wide acclaim and was then signed to the major indie label XL, only to release a followup album the next year with contributions from several other indie rock outfits. This album, titled The Monitor was a concept album about the civil war, with theatrical bits juxtaposed against eight minute ballads. Titus Andronicus tours frequently throughout North America.
