Beginning its career as a backing band for the burlesque performances of Dita von Teese, DeVotchKa formed in 1997 and eventually started self-releasing albums of its world music. Drawing on traditional Greek, Romani and Slavic music, but infusing it with American punk, the Denver quartet began attracting a diverse audience when it was featured in various movie trailers and commercials and eventually was chosen to score the soundtrack for the Academy Award-winning film Little Miss Sunshine. Since then the four multi-instrumentalists have toured worldwide and garnered an impressive amount of acclaim.
