To partake in the parade you can be of any cultural background and you would need to wear the Tamil heritage dress, the Madisar.
Madisar is a specific style of wearing the saree that dates back to the period between 2nd century BC to 1st century AD. It is adorned by the women from the South Indian state of Tamil Nadu. The Madisar requires a 9 yard sari to wear, unlike the current modern version of sari wearing style which needs 6 yards.
Please register in advance to be able to partake in the online presentation on Sat, April 10th where you will learn deeper about the Madisari way of wearing the saree.
The event is organized by Akṣarā, an artistic program that brings to the fore-front India's rich cultural heritage in unique and meaningful ways.
