A San Francisco native, Melvin Seals is a singer/songwriter and pianist who is known for his soulful blends of rock and blues music. After spending the early portion of his music career playing in different Bay Area bands, he mastered the electric organ, which would go on to become the main instrument of his career. Seals joined the Jerry Garcia Band, the main project of the late Grateful Dead front man, in 1980 and played with the group until Garcia passed away in 1995. The following year, he formed JGB to continue the legacy of the Jerry Garcia Band.
