Beginning his career as a Jamaican solo artist, Mykal Rose caught the attention of reggae group Black Uhuru, who were in need of a new singer in 1977. Because of his wide vocal range and songwriting ability, Rose is credited with leading Black Uhuru to international fame. Though Rose left the group in the early 80s to start a coffee farm and disappeared off the radar for quite some time, Rose reemerged on the world music scene in the early 90s after signing a solo record deal with RCA. Since then Mykal Rose has continued to tour and release new material internationally.
