Held at the 2,400 acre lakeside Long Hunter State Park, this annual event brings Native American culture to the fore. Through the fiesta, the Native American Indian Association of Tennessee showcases the lifestyles of the original inhabitants of this powerful nation, and includes colorfully-costumed dancers twirling to traditional beats as they compete for prizes. Paintings, art, crafts, books and clothes are sold, each of which has a nugget of information about this fast-dwindling community. Story-telling, Indian games and dog shows are conducted with great enthusiasm. A drum contest draws many youth who would like to try banging on a traditional boom-box! As expected, the venue is filled with the sights and aromas of sizzling tacos, chili, fry-breads and homini.
