Brandi Carlile, born in 1981 in Ravensdale, Washington, began playing music with her mother at the age of 8. By the time she was 15 years old, Carlile was already writing her own songs. Her eponymous debut album was released in 2005, and with it came instant fame. This award-winning artist seems to be constantly on tour, often opening for big names, and her songs have been featured in TV shows and commercials. Carlile also spends a lot of time doing charitable work—in 2008, she created "The Looking Out Foundation," an organization that makes donations to various causes. Carlile's sweet yet mature voice and deep, personal lyrics make her music an auditory treat.
