The Munich Symphony Orchestra (Münchner Symphoniker) is an orchestra based in Munich, Germany that was originally founded as the Graunke Symphony Orchestra by Kurt Graunke in 1945. Since then, the orchestra has grown to become an illustrious career as a symphony orchestra and take on the name of its home city in 1990. Though the orchestra rarely toured over the course of its career, the Munich Symphony Orchestra is perhaps best known for its extensive history of recording music for films. Led today by famed French pianist and conductor Philippe Entremont, who would lead its American premier during its 2005-2006 tour, the orchestra is finally achieving the recognition it deserves as one of the world's most capable and historically important symphony orchestras.
