After graduating college, Chris Velan traveled to West Africa as part of the production team on a documentary film. The experience changed his world outlook and influenced his songwriting style in a major way. The Canadian singer/songwriter now combines his breezy Jack Johnson-esque radio pop tunes with significant amounts of African and Caribbean elements, and has managed to garner comparisons to the likes of Paul Simon and Tom Petty along the way. Velan performs solo on stage, relying on loop pedals to help him replicate the fleshed-out style his songs adopt on his recordings.
