Honoring the Mexican flag that was originally adopted in 1823, this day is filled with the utmost displays of patriotism. Revelers demonstrate their loyalty throughout the city. Although the green, white and red flag has undergone many changes through the years, the colors have always represented independence, purity and unity, respectively. The eagle and cactus emblem acknowledges the country's tie to its ancestors through an Aztec legend.
