Randy Bachman, born Randolph Charles Bachman, is a Canadian instrumentalist, singer and founder of the bands The Guess Who and Bachman-Turner Overdrive. A native of Winnipeg, MB, he co-founded Al and The Silvertones with Chad Allan, in 1960. The band evolved into one of the most successful Canadian rock bands - The Guess Who. After a string of highly successful albums, Bachman left the band in mid-1970 in order to focus on his personal life. Prior to his exit from the band, he made a solo album Axe for RCA Records. 1971 saw the formation of Brave Belt which later came to be known as Bachman-Turner Overdrive (BTO). Bachman's journey with BTO came to an end in 1977 when he quit citing creative differences. His second solo effort Survivor failed to make a mark and he started a new project, Ironhorse, with bassist-singer Tom Sparks. By the time the 1980s rolled in, he was back performing with Guess Who and BTO. In 2001, he was inducted into Canada's Walk of Fame for his work with The Guess Who. Bachman has been the recipient of several honors such as SOCAN's Lifetime Achievement Award, The Governor General's Performing Arts Award, the Order of Manitoba and more. He became an Officer of the Order of Canada in 2008 and was inducted into Canada's Walk of Fame for a second time, for his solo career.
