James Morrison
[]
Inspired by his parents' record collection, British singer/songwriter James Morrison creates music with folk, country and soul influences. Born in Rugby, Warwichshire as James Morrison Catchpole, he contracted a severe case of the whooping cough when he was only a few weeks old and was given a 30 percent chance of survival. Despite doctors' claims that he would be brain damaged if he did survive, Morrison recovered as a healthy child and attributes his deep and raspy voice to disease that nearly killed him. From the start of his career, Morrison has received widespread critical acclaim, beginning with his debut single "You Give Me Something" in 2006, which he performed the same year at the Royal Variety Performance for Prince Charles and The Duchess of Cornwall. His 2006 album Undiscovered, debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart, selling over one million copies by the end of the year and making Morrison the UK's best-selling male solo artist of the year. On his 2011 album The Awakening, Morrison steps away from his standard love song ballads and examines the journey from losing his father to becoming the father of his own child.
