Richard II is a historical play and the first part in Shakespeare's tetralogy known as the Henriad. The play tells the story of the last two years of King Richard's life, beginning with him sitting powerfully upon his thrown. As the play progresses, Richard makes a series of decisions that expose his indecisiveness and flagrant disregard for the common people of England, which ultimately leads to his untimely death in prison.
