Santacruzan & Flores de Mayo are festivals close to the heart of every Filipino. Santacruzan is based on the legend of the finding of Christ's Cross by Emperor Constantine's mother. On the occasion, young ladies dressed in gorgeous gowns are escorted by handsome young men. They parade through the village or town each May. To celebrate Flores de Mayo, young girls, dressed in white, strew flowers around an image of the Virgin Mary while singing songs celebrating innocence and purity.
