Manchester City is an English Premier League soccer team based out of Manchester, England. Founded in 1880 as St. Mark's (West Gorton), it changed names twice, to the Ardwick Association Football Club in 1887 and to Manchester City in 1894. The team has been playing at the City of Manchester Stadium since 2003 and prior to that at Maine Road, a stadium that was built in 1923. The organization had an extremely successful period during the late-1960s and early-1970s, when it won the League Championship, FA Cup and European Cup Winners' Cup. In 2008 the club was purchased by Abu Dhabi United Group, following which it's fortune changed and it was propelled into the top six of the Premier League once again.
