Featuring
Formed as a sound system headed by Jazzie B in the late 1980s, Soul II Soul boasted a rotating cast of musicians and vocalists, grabbing the attention of Virgin Records with its dub plate "Fairplay" early on in its career. Most notable for the single "Back to Life," which dominated the British and American charts for weeks in 1989, Soul II Soul became one of the groups to herald in a resurgence of interest in British soul and funk. With multiple platinum albums to its name, Soul II Soul continued its career through the 1990s until disbanding in 1997, reuniting every once in a while to play live shows, then reforming permanently to release a new album in 2009.
