Málaga CF is one of the more
unheralded teams in La Liga, most probably because the team has changed names
and owners so many times since its establishment in 1904. The current
incarnation of the team came from the ashes of two former clubs, Club Atlético
Malagueño and CD Málaga, the former club remained solvent, while the latter
folded. Málaga has never finished better than fourth-place in Spain’s Primera División, yet it qualified for
the quarter-finals of both the UEFA Champions League in 2013 and the UEFA Europa
League in 2003. Los Boquerones (The Anchovies) as the team
players are known, take the pitch at La
Rosaleda (Rose Garden), a stadium that holds approximately 31,000.
