Loy Krathong Festival (Lantern Festival)

Loy Krathong Festival, Thailand's most widely celebrated festival takes place after the rice-planting season. In the evenings, Thais place Krathong (lotus-shaped boats made from banana leaves) on various waterways and let them drift away. Each Krathong carries incense sticks, a lighted candle and some flowers to honor Mae Khongkha, Goddess of Water. The Chao Phraya River is a nice place to experience the festival. On dry ground, Thais rejoice with cultural shows and fireworks. The festival falls on the full moon of the 12th lunar month of the Thai calendar.
