David Allan Coe is a country singer who helped create the outlaw country scene in the United States in the 70s and 80s. His rough style and sometimes controversial lyrics have won him large numbers of fans and detractors alike. He's penned a few well-known hits, such as "Take This Job and Shove It," (recorded by Johny Paycheck) and his more than 20 albums released since 1969 have occasionally hit the rock and country charts. Due to lyrics that many listeners have deemed to be overly crude, racist or sexist, Coe's music appeals a bit less to the mainstream than some of his contemporaries such as, Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings. Coe was featured in "Heartworn Highways," a film that helped define the outlaw country moment.
