Born to a South African mother and Zimbabwean father, Kyla La Grange grew up in London and started playing music while attending Cambridge University. La Grange has a distinctively unconventional voice that manages to simultaneously convey all the brassy power of a belt and the whispering intimacy of a croon. On her debut album Ashes, released in 2012, she lends her voice to smart, tasteful pop songs with guitar-heavy alternative rock arrangements.
