Boards of Canada is a Scottish electronic duo composed of brothers Michael Sandison and Marcus Eoin. Raised in a musical household, the two began playing instruments at a young age and soon started experimenting with tape machines to layer, cut and sample found sounds over original compositions. Continuing down the path of creating analog sounds and noises to sew a rich sonic tapestry, the duo would go on to build a characteristically warm, emotively nostalgic style for itself. Boards of Canada released its debut EP, Twoism, in 1995, and the recording helped turn heads and attract some warranted attention to the forward thinking Scottish duo. After signing to the well respected label Warp Records, the group released its debut LP, Music Has the Right to Children, in 1998 to substantial critical laudation. Continuing to evolve their sound, the members of Boards of Canada have grown as musicians and also as critical thinkers as well as sonic tinkerers--helping make sure the duo's music is consistently innovative and intellectually rewarding.
