Around the World in 80 Days is based on a classic novel by acclaimed French writer Jules Verne. Its main characters are rich Englishman Phileas Fogg and his French valet Passepartout, who try to circumnavigate the globe in 80 days in order to win £20,000. Published in 1873, at the dawn of global tourist travel, the story follows Fogg and Passepartout through their incredible adventures in India, Hong Kong, the United States, and other countries. The book has inspired songs, board games, movies, and theatrical productions.
