Italian singer/songwriter Giuseppe Mango often goes by the nickname Pino Mango, but is best known as simply Mango. Born in Lagonegro, a small town in southern Italy, he began singing with local hard rock and blues bands at the age of seven. After studying sociology at the University of Salerno, Mango traveled to Rome in 1975 where he recorded and released his debut album, La Mia Ragazza è un Gran Caldo. For his next two consecutive albums, 1979's Arlecchino and 1982's È Pericoloso Sporgersi, Mango recruited his brother Armando as a co-author and vocalist. Mango and Armando teamed up with songwriter Giulio Papetti Mogol in 1990 and began making music inspired by Mediterranean music. Throughout the decade, Mango worked with international artists such as Simple Minds drummer Mel Gaynor and guitarist David Rhodes to develop a more mature sound, which is exemplified on his 1977 album Credo. In 2004, his music Mediterranean sound began shifting towards rock music, and in the following years he released a succession of rock tunes such as "Chissà se Nevica," and recorded and performed several duets with his wife Laura Valente. Mango's 2011 album La Terra Degli Aquiloni, is the singer's 23rd studio album.
