Since its formation in the late 1980s, the stoner rock band Monster Magnet has been rejecting the currents trends of rock music. The band was making smirking, ironic metal when hard rock's attitude was deathly serious and retro-minded space rock when everyone else was donning flannel and attempting in vain to imitate Kurt Kobain. A decade later the public finally caught up with Monster Magnet after the band released its hit single "Space Lord." Led by Dave Wyndorf's driving guitar and swaggering vocals, Monster Magnet still makes music that's secretly brainy, always sexy and as hard rocking as its debut effort, 1991's Spine of God.
