Best known as the lead vocalist of the progressive metal band Queensrÿche, Geoff Tate is a singer/songwriter and musician from West Germany. After spending some fronting bands such as Babylong and Myth, he eventually dedicated his time to Queensrÿche, which evolved out of the cover band The Mob, in the early 1980s. The band signed a major 15-year contract with EMI, releasing prolific metal albums such as the 1988 concept album Operation: Mindcrime, and 1990's Empire. Tate eventually released a self-titled solo record in 2002, and in 2012, after three decades as band leader, he was fired from Queensrÿche and quickly replaced. After he filed a lawsuit against the band, a judge ruled that both parties had the right to use the name Queensrÿche until the lawsuit was settled, so while the original members of the band kept the name and continued on without Tate, he formed his own version of Queensrÿche. As he continues to tour as with a new incarnation of his ex-band, dubbed Jeff Tate and Members of Queensrÿche, Tate has also expanded his solo catalog of records with 2012's Kings & Thieves.
