Co-founder of legendary American rock band The Velvet Underground, John Cale has cemented himself as one of the more influential musicians of 20th Century rock and roll. After closing out the 1960s with The Velvet Underground, the Welsh singer/songwriter, composer and producer enjoyed a prolific and celebrated solo career full of uncompromising art rock, protopunk, classical and avant-garde music. Throughout the 1970s and 1980s, Cale produced some of rock music's most important albums, including Horses by Patti Smith and the debut LPs from The Stooges and The Modern Lovers. After half a century in the music business, Cale remains an enigmatic figure in rock and roll, constantly ensuring his work remains challenging and honest rather than easily-digested.
