The music of Calexico conjures images of the American Southwest, specifically isolated border towns and forlorn saloons that hearken back to the days of cowboys and banditos. Formed in 1998 in Tucson, AZ, Calexico is one of the few bands that successfully blend traditional music of the South West with elements of modern rock and folk. Though making music that almost seems destined to be exclusively listened to in remote desert towns near the Mexican border, Calexico has managed to achieve crossover success and has been a noted fixture of the indie scene since its inception.
