Featuring
Most people are unfamiliar with the humble origins of the Black Eyed Peas. Before the group achieved mainstream success with its 2003 LP Elephunk, the Peas were just another run of the mill hip-hop group from Los Angeles--struggling to make a name for itself on the small time club circuit. After releasing two well respected albums, the group decided it needed to change something and announced (to the chagrin of many dedicated fans) the inclusion of female vocalist Fergie. With the new addition, the band progressed toward a much more "pop friendly" sound and song structure. Even though the group received much more commercial success with its new image, many, in particular old school fans, consider this career transition a sell out for mainstream success and lucrative monetary profits.
