After starting his music career as the vocalist for the Jeff Beck Group and Faces in the late 1960s and early 1970s, Rod Stewart embarked on a solo career and stood out with his raspy, raw voice. With an unfettered sound that was more pop friendly than work with his previous groups, he released records such as 1971's Every Picture Tells a Story, and 1978's Blondes have More Fun, to widespread acclaim, establishing himself as a radio friendly musician who writes memorable songs about heart break and redemptive love. Though Stewart has lost his commercial appeal with time, his distinctive voice and music career have been immortalized in his hit songs such as "Maggie May" and "Forever Young."
