Of India's many celebrations, the Hindu festival Holi takes the cake as the most jovial and rambunctious of them all. Celebrated at the beginning of each spring, Holi signals the rebirth of life's spirit. On this day people throw colored powder and colored water on each other - which is why it is known as the festival of colors. The color-throwing is also accompanied by the drinking of bhang, an intoxicating concoction made by mixing the cannabis plant with milk. People sing and dance merrily to welcome the spring season.
