#Sprawling Oaks, Spanish Moss and St Johns River Views

Duration
Approx. 3 Hours

About

Magnificent tangled oaks line this neighborhood laced with cool shade, magnolia trees, orange groves, bird life, turtles, and butterfly gardens on this attraction. Mandarin, named after the orange, is nestled along the St. Johns River and has a lush tropical feel that makes this attraction spectacular. The area has historical meaning in many ways. It once served as a primary exporter of cotton, and oranges in the 1800’s. The Maple Leaf, a Union Steamship hit a Confederate mine and sank off the banks in Mandarin. Olde Mandarin was once called "a tropical paradise" by Harriet Beecher Stowe who wintered here from Connecticut for 17 years. Beecher-Stowe (author of Uncle Tom's Cabin) instilled her spirituality and passion for community and it still lives on. Much of the history has been captured and preserved and is shared on this bicycle tour. Free Parking. Local museums, a fishing dock, tennis courts, restaurants, a boat ramp and parks are available after the attraction
