An iconic figure in the pub rock scene, Wilco Johnson emerged during the middle of the 1970s when bloated, progressive stadium rock ruled mainstream music. The counterculture to the UKs glamorous rock star life was made up of a number of bands that prided themselves on playing small venues or bars and actually having an interaction with their fans. The bands called the style of music they played pub rock and throughout the 1970s, when Johnson played in a number of popular bands, the scene expanded until it evolved into the punk rock movement. The singer/songwriter and blues guitarist made a name for himself as the front man and founder of bands like Dr. Feelgood and Solid Senders before embarking on a successful solo career. He released several records with the Wilko Johnson Band, starting with 1981's Ice on the Motorway.
