Sharon Isbin is a classical guitarist from St. Louis Park, Minnesota who almost single-handedly revived the guitar as a valid classical instrument on par with the violin and the piano, and is the founder of the Guitar Department at the Julliard School of Music in New York. Despite Isbin's universal recognition and acclaim for being one of the world's foremost pedagogues of classical guitar, her extensive performance and recording history is just as acclaimed. Isbin's recording, Dreams of a World became the first classical guitarist in 28 years to earn a Grammy Award for "Best Instrumental Soloist" in 2001--a feat she would repeat once more in 2010 with the recording Journey to the New World.
