Chalkfest at The Island

The Island invites ALL artists - professional and aspiring - to join us for the 5th Annual Chalkfest at The Island in Pigeon Forge!

Location: The Island in Pigeon Forge

Date: Sunday, October 10th with a Rain Date of Monday, October 11th

Time: 8 am to 6 pm, check-in begins at 8 am

Artist Registration Fee: Free, after making a $15 refundable deposit to hold your spot at the event. The deposit will be refunded to those who attended and competed in Chalkfest, or cancelled their registration at least 24 hours prior to the event.

NOTE: Teams of two are invited to participate in the competition. If you are a group of 3 or more, you must register under the group category.

Working Time: Participants will have from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm to complete their work. You may continue to work on your piece after this time, but judging will begin at this time.

A check-in table will be in front of the fountain when you arrive. Chalk is provided.

Working Space: After checking in we will direct you to where the concrete squares are for you to complete your work. We ask that you complete at least a 4' X 4' square in order to be eligible to be judged. Many of the squares available will be much larger than this, and you are free to do as large a piece as you feel you are able to complete.

NOTE: We are strongly encouraging artists to use a tempera base for their piece. If you don't know what this is, don't worry! This is basically a way to make a white canvas on the concrete for you to work with. White tempera paint will be provided by The Island, and our staff are happy to do this for you the night before so your space is ready to go. You are welcome to put down tempera the day of, we just recommend you arrive early to do so. If you would not prefer to have tempera paint in your design, just let us know when you register.

Theme: TBD

Judging: There will be 4 professional chalk artists that will act as judges. They will judge on these criteria: creativity, composition, adherence to theme, and use of the medium.

Chalk: You will be provided one box of 36 Reeve's Soft Pastels, however, you are welcome to bring your own. You may also exchange some of your chalk at the check-in table to get more of a particular color. We will have extra blocks of black and white chalk to use for large areas.
