Originally a solo project of Hunter Hunt-Hendrix, Liturgy has since evolved into a four-piece that has transcended the black metal genre and even won accolades from fans and critics who rarely listen to metal. Though the group insists it's very much a metal band, it manages to present avant-garde compositions, experimental noise and dramatic soundscapes under the guise of metal. Liturgy creates music that isn't palatable for most, but for those who can stomach it, it proves to be music that is densely layered and immensely rewarding with repeated listens.
