Best known as front man and co-founder of 1990s experimental noise icons Sonic Youth, Thurston Moore is also a solo artist and has kept busy with various projects in between the albums and tours of his primary band. Highly regarded for his avant-garde guitar work, involving atypical tunings, strange timbres and unusual methods of playing, Moore was credited in Rolling Stone magazine's "Greatest Guitarists of All Time" at number 34 and has had collaborated with many other respected guitarists and musicians, like Glenn Branca, Nels Cline and Christian Marclay. While much of Moore's early solo work fell in the category of experimental noise or improv, his 2011 album Demolished Thoughts showcased slightly more streamlined leanings toward acoustic Americana. Despite the album's less experimental quality, it was still hailed for Moore's evident talent and ability to produce a beautifully subdued release. Thurston Moore tours as a solo musician regularly and is often joined by special guests like Kurt Vile and J. Mascis.
