Built during the Nazi dictatorship for the 1936 Winter Olympics and remodeled for the planned Winter Olympics in 1940, which failed due to World War II. For this purpose, the two communities Garmisch and Partenkirchen were forcibly merged.

Learn from your tour guide Stefan more about the darkest years 1933 - 1945, but also about the current use of the stadium and the ski jumps.

The Partnachklamm is a fascinating 700 meters (1/2 mile) long and up to 80 meters (260 feet) deep gorge, through which the meltwater of the Zugspitze Glacier rages. It is safe to walk on all year round and is an ideal destination for any weather!

From the car park to the entrance of the gorge you need 25 minutes on foot or in season by horse-drawn carriage (about € 20.00 for 4 people each way)

In less than an hour’s drive we reach the Bavarian capital, which is affectionately called "cosmopolitan city with heart".

You might want to extend your visit to Castle Hohenschwangau, the neo-Gothic summer residence of King Maximilian II, in which Ludwig II spent much of his childhood, which is close by. Please note that Neuschwanstein Castle (and / or Hohenschwangau Castle) cannot be combined with Herrenchiemsee Castle and / or Salzburg.

After a romantic cruise across the Chiemsee, the largest of the Bavarian lakes, you can visit the most ambitious project of the Bavarian King Ludwig II on the secluded Herreninsel: Had he not been restricted by budget issues, he would have built a copy of the Versailles Palace on this island. But even the middle section, only completed from the outside, will amaze you.

The 30-minute tour of the state rooms costs about € 10.00, children under 18 free admission, ferry € 9.00 / € 4.50
