Philippe Jaroussky is a French opera countertenor known for his virtuosic coloratura technique. After distinguishing himself as a violinist and a pianist, he turned his focus to singing and rose to prominence with his spirited interpretations of classic Baroque cantatas. Jaroussky recorded his first album, a compilation of Italian Baroque composer Alessandro Scarlatti's material titled Sedecia, Re di Gerusalemme, in 1999. He has since continued to offer his own compelling versions of beloved classics by composers such as Vivaldi, Bach and Handel.
