English singer, songwriter and actress Hazel O'Connor ran away from home at the age of 16, traveling the world and ending up in rather unusual situations, such as singing with a variety troupe for the US army in Germany, crossing the Sahara, as well as making and selling clothes in Amsterdam. Finally O'Connor returned to England and by chance became involved with the making of the critically acclaimed 1980 film Breaking Glass, which O'Connor starred in and wrote/recorded the entire soundtrack for. Resonating with a variety of cultures, O'Connor became a sensation on the charts in the UK, Hungary, France, Australia and Canada. Though she has since released other albums and though they fared well with fans, O'Connor is still most famous for Breaking Glass and often gives performances of this album from start to finish.
