Frogs and toads are an important part of the food web today and are found on every continent but Antarctica; they consume anything they can fit in their mouth such as: bugs, spiders, worms, slugs, larvae and even small fish. Toads that burrow into the soil help to aerate it, thereby helping trees and plants survive.

Frogs and toads are considered indicator species, meaning that more frogs and toads indicates a healthier ecosystem. Given the loss of about 60% of Michigans original wetlands, frogs need our help to make up for the habitat loss. To help at home and in your area, you can plant more natives, avoid spraying pesticides, remove invasive species, educate others, and protect wetlands.

Join us as we learn about Frogs & Toads and what you can do to help from Justin Smith with the Huron-Clinton Metroparks at our very own Crosswinds Marsh.
