Dennis DeYoung is a singer/songwriter, musician and producer best known as the lead vocalist, primary songwriter and founder of the rock band Styx. While living in Chicago at the age of 14 he teamed up with his neighbors John and Chuck Panozzo and friends James Young and John Curulewski to form the band Tradewinds that would eventually be known as Styx in 1970. While perfecting its sound at small venues and school auditorium around Chicago, Styx earned critical and commercial acclaim for its song "Lady," and spent the 1970s and early 1980s releasing eleven studio albums before breaking up in 1984. DeYoung switched his focus to other musical projects and released his debut solo album Desert Moon followed by Back to the World in 1986. Styx reunited for a short stints from 1990 to 1992 and again in 1995-1997 before DeYoung officially parted ways with the now legendary rock band. In addition to his rock music ventures, DeYoung has begun working with full orchestras and performing in symphonic music productions such as his musical version of The Hunchback of Notre Dame, which debut in 2008 at the Bailiwich Reperatory Theatre in Chicago and earned the Joseph Jefferson Award for Best Musical.
