According to this version of the famous story, the wicked witch of the west is a misunderstood character whose complex childhood and dramatic history with several of the story's beloved characters, particularly the Wizard of Oz himself, have attributed to her "wicked" reputation. Mean Girls, with book by Tina Fey, is a musical portrayal of the popular, 2004 film. It was inspired by the book Queen Bees and Wannabes by Rosalind Wiseman. The plot revolves around Cady Heron, who has moved into the city from Africa. At school, she runs into the Regina, Gretchen and Karen, who are better known as the Plastics. With her new friends, Janis and Damian, she decides to teach The Plastics a lesson by overthrowing their rule on the school.

Hadestown: The Myth. The Musical, based on the album Hadestown by Anaïs Mitchell, is an adaptation of the Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice. Set in a post-apocalyptic world and narrated by the Greek god Hermes, the story follows Orpheus' journey to the underworld to bring back Eurydice. The musical was first performed in Vermont from 2006 to 2007. It made its Off-Broadway debut at the New York Theatre Workshop in 2016.
