Based on a traditional Christian holy day, pancake day was so named because people needed a way to use up all of their eggs before the Christian fast of Lent. From 12:30pm on Shrove Tuesday, Spitalfields market runs riot with teams of four people running relays with frying pans and pancakes.

Londoners love gin and it is no surprise that even World Gin Day is actually a 5-day festival celebrating the popular spirit. Taking place at over 75 bars across the city, festival goers buy a pass which entitles them to a variety of gin cocktails for GBP6 each.

One of the biggest culinary festivals of the capital, the Taste Of London is graced by the presence of the most famous chefs from around the world, annually. The multi-day extravaganza promises to get your taste buds tickling, what with London's 50 top restaurants participating in the festival.

Organized by the Campaign for Real Ale, this huge event is usually held in the summer and offers more than 200 British beers, over 200 imported beers from Europe and America, a range of ciders and row after row of food stalls. Do not miss the beer tasting session!
