Entering the music scene in 1981 with the group 10,000 Maniacs, Natalie Merchant went on to become a voice for a generation (sorta). Her croon is extremely characteristic and after hearing it people tend to fall in love with her. Though she left the Maniacs in 1993, Merchant has gone on to release a number of solo albums and tour in support of them. Her songs typically center around the soft rock genre and her sorrowful lyrics help to complement the doleful instrumentation quite well.
