Stade Malherbe Caen (SM Caen), is a French football club founded in 1913. Its name is a tribute for the late French poet, François de Malherbe (1555-1628). In 1985, Caen became a professional team and three years after, it started to play in Ligue1. But in 1995, the team disappointingly returned to Ligue 2. In 2002, thanks to the club's president, Jean-François Fortin, the team once again returned to Ligue 1. SM Caen won two Ligue 2 French Championship 1996 and 2010, in addition to some regional competitions, including the Trophée Normand in 2006-2011, 2014 and 2015. The team's jersey colors are red and blue. Since 1993 Caen plays its home matches at Michel d'Ornano Stadium. It has had its own training center since 1989, where several notable players have been trained, including Jérôme Rothen, William Gallas, Xavier Gravelaine and Fabrice Divert. Stade Malherbe Caen has is own anthem, "Nous sommes normands, fiers et conquérants" (we are Normans, proud and conquering).
