American country singer Joseph Logan Diffie was born into a musical family - his father was a multi-instrumentalist and his mother a vocalist. After graduating high school, he found work on the side as a musician in the groups Higher Purpose and Special Edition. He toured with Special Edition in nearby states and sent demos to record labels in Nashville, where he eventually moved. In early 1990 Diffie signed a record deal with Epic Records after a song he co-wrote became a commercial success. The first single - "Home," of his debut album A Thousand Winding Roads topped the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart as well as several radio charts. His subsequent singles, "If You Want Me To," "New Way (To Light Up An Old Flame" and "If the Devil Danced (In Empty Pockets)" were all chart-toppers. His other albums, Regular Joe, Honky Tonk Attitude, Third Rock from the Sun, Life's So Funny and more did well not only commercially but were appreciated by critics as well.
