Los Angeles rock band Maroon 5 initially struggled to find success--beginning its career under the moniker Kara's Flowers which signed to Reprise Records but was dropped after its debut album tanked. Reforming during college, this time as Maroon 5, the quintet created a more soulful, R&B-influenced sound for itself and again was picked up by a major label. The band's debut didn't sell well yet again, but over a year later, the album's single "Harder to Breath" became a radio hit and since then Maroon 5 has become firmly established in the mainstream music scene.
