Murphy will be taking custom portraits at the museum using antique cameras and methods. The glass in these cameras is no longer made, so you may never again have the opportunity to have a portrait made quite like this. Murphy specializes in 19th century photographic processes including tintypes, ambrotypes, and the wet plate collodion process. He travels with his mobile tintype studio making portrait and scenic images, including landscapes in the Hudson Valley and Adirondacks.
Portraits are limited to 1-2 subjects, take about 15 minutes per shot, and you will be able to watch your image magically emerge on the tintype. The final varnishing will take place at the artist's studio and the photograph will be delivered to the Museum for later pick up. Your tintype photograph will be processed offsite at the artist’s studio for later pick up at the Museum. Cost: $50 for 4x5 tintype; $70 for 5x7 tintype

Pre-registration required, based on 30 minute time slots. Visit cahoonmuseum.org or contact the Museum to schedule an appointment: 508-428-7581 Payments due at session to Craig Murphy.
