Our popular Silent Film night returns with Douglas Fairbanks' swashbuckling classic film 'The Mark of Zorro', the 1920 American silent Western romance starring Douglas Fairbanks and Noah Beery Sr. This genre-defining adventure was the first movie version of the story. Based on the 1919 book The Curse of Capistrano, which introduced the masked hero, it is a landmark, not only for Fairbanks, but also in the development of the action-adventure film. It both reenergized his career and redefined a genre. The Mark of Zorro helped popularize one of the enduring creations of 20th century American fiction, a character who was the prototype for comic book heroes such as Batman. Curated for us by film expert and virtuoso performer Donald MacKenzie, who improvises the accompaniment live on our famous 1871 Walker Organ. Prepare to be wowed! Bar & Prize raffle on the night.
